THE POSSIBLE BINIBINI 2012 WINNERS: SURVEY RESULTS

By Jetset Alejandro

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Never is a statement more true than when you take a look at the different definitions of beauty from around the world. What one finds truly beautiful, someone else might find outrageous, weird or even ugly. We do not all live following the same standards or principles. We do not have the same ideals. We are different; so is beauty."- Elaine Furst

Queentessence did an informal survey on people of different nationalities utilizing our associates in the the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, North Africa, Carribean, South America Asia and Australia. Most of those that we have surveyed are non-pageant fanatics. Some of them are ordinary people working out there and were quite surprised when asked to choose the Top 5 among the 30 candidates vying for the titles of Bb. Pilipinas-Universe, Bb. Pilipinas-International, Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism, First Runner-up and Second Runner –Up. Rank 1 gets a score of 5, Rank 2 gets a score of 4 and so on and so forth. The total scores for the candidates were therefore collated and summated and the highest score gets the highest rank equivalent to the BbPU. The second highest score gets the equivalent of BbPI, the third will be BbPT. The 4th and 5th ranks would be first and second runners-up.

This survey does not pretend to be a systematic and scientific survey as our sampling does not follow the random or systematic sampling. We merely wrote friends and friends in Facebook to tell us whom they prefer to be the winners of the Binibining Pilipinas 2012 Beauty Pageant and we directed them to the sites where they can evaluate them. We collated the choices and voila, we have a prediction list. There are some interesting findings that we noticed from the survey. Here are some of the findings that we learn from the survey.

1. Although we directed the respondents to the site where they are to see the pictures of the qualifications of the girls, there seem to be no consideration for the height. The initial and foremost concern for evaluation is the facial appeal, beauty and charm. This writer believe that in the selection of their choices, height is not a primary concern. If the candidate can carry herself and be personable enough to be seen and stand out among the other candidates, then by all means, the candidate in question should be chosen based on her outstanding beauty characteristics. What I am saying here is that in doing the choices, height should not be the primary and initial criterion but it should be supporting criterion only because people of all nationalities look at facial beauty as the initial criterion to that effect.
2. The Japanese selects the fairer type of beauties among the candidates. They selected the girls who are fair-skinned, beautiful face, charming and doll-like countenance. The likes of Alcantara, Gallman, Howell, Forbes and Schmitz were greatly favored by our Japanese respondents. The selection pattern of the Japanese in the Miss International Beauty pageant is greatly reflected here although in its whole history, they have chosen only 2 Miss Internationals who are dusky in color. As a rule therefore, the Binibini should choose a representative to the Miss International along the mestiza mold type of candidate.
3. On the other hand, certain voters like the Micronesian group and the Fiji group preferred the dusky type of beauties while other groups cut across a number of choices. Our respondents from Singapore veered toward the Chinese mestiza type. 4. One of our friends in Malaysia who is working at the Consulate of Poland polled also three Polish expats and their choices cuts across the different girls. It is interesting to note therefore that each one of us has a different standard for beauty.

The quotation above therefore truly is underscored by this survey. People’s choice for what is beautiful to them is varied and thus the results of our survey just emphasized the common ground of their choices. We have 57 respondents from different countries and they are as follows:

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA …6
PHILIPPINES …5
ITALY …5
FEDERATED STATES OF MICRONESIA…3
UNITED KINGDOM …3
JAPAN …3
CANADA …3
MALAYSIA …3
SINGAPORE …3
POLAND …3
INDIA …2
MOROCCO …2
TUNISIA …2
FIJI …2
VENEZUELA …2
AUSTRALIA …2
HUNGARY …1
JORDAN …1
FRANCE …1
NIGERIA …1
MEXICO …1
JAMAICA …1
CHILE …1
INDONESIA …1

We have placed the Top 15 in our listing as the lowest 5 candidates that garnered points are so close to each other and as we have stressed in our discussion that individual difference in the judges choices would make or unmake a girls’ chance to the Top 10/12. And the survey results are as follows:

1. Patricia Lae Ejercitado
2. Nicole Schmitz
3. MJ Lastimosa
4. Annalie Forbes
5. Janine Tugonon
6. Liezl Alcantara
7. Karen Gallman
8. Roxanne Joy Jesalva
9. Gina Joy Howell
10. Rose Ann Aguilar
11. Katrina Dimaranan
12. Sherlyn Gonzales
13. Elaine Kay Moll
14. Jaine Hidalgo
15. Angelee De los Reyes

As a note of precaution, this is just a compilation of all the choices of friends around the globe and who did matter when we wrote those letters if they can email us their Top 5 choices for the Binibining Pilipinas 2012. We have a simple methodology and that being simplistic; we cannot offer you a margin of error. It would suffice therefore that the last 3 candidates would be the margin of difference from the real semifinalists that would be announced come pageant night.

Thirty coins in the fountain,, which 12 will the fountain bless? Which 5 will eventually make it to the WINNERS CIRCLE? Your choices can be as good as mine.

  1. I was not able to submit mine. Well, Janine Tugonon will still be my personal bet for BP-Universe crown. Either way, I'm hoping that whoever bags the crown would be able to maintain Philippines in the top5 ranks for the Miss Universe pageant and the likes. :) Way to go sir Jetset! >Aginaya
